View payment history

Billdu keeps a full log of every payment added to an invoice - including partial payments, removals, and the date of each transaction. Here is how to find it on both mobile and web.

Mobile app

View payment history for an invoice

  • Go to Documents - Invoices.

  • Tap the invoice you want to check.

  • Scroll down past the invoice details.

  • You will see a Payments section listing every payment recorded against this invoice.

Each payment entry shows:

  • The amount paid

  • The date the payment was recorded

  • Any note added at the time of payment

  • The payment status - full or partial

Document status at a glance

The invoice status is shown at the top of every invoice and in your invoice list:

  • Unpaid - no payment has been recorded yet

  • Partially paid - at least one payment has been recorded, but the balance is not cleared

  • Paid - the full invoice amount has been received

  • Overdue - the due date has passed with no full payment

Website

View payment history for an invoice

  • Go to Documents - Invoices.

  • Click on the invoice you want to check.

  • In the invoice preview, scroll down to the Timeline section at the bottom.

The Timeline shows a full audit log of every action on the document, including:

  • Payment added - amount, date, and note recorded at the time

  • Payment removed - timestamp of when the payment was deleted

  • Invoice created - date the document was first saved

  • Email sent - who the invoice was sent to and when

  • Email opened - when your client opened the email

  • Invoice viewed - when the client opened the online link

  • Overdue - timestamp of when the due date passed unpaid

  • Document created from this one - for example, a credit note or delivery note

Document status in the invoice list

The Status column in your invoice list shows the current state of every invoice at a glance. Click any column header to sort by status.

Client-facing payment history

When you share an invoice via an online link, your client can also see the payment history directly in their view of the document - including partial payments and the remaining balance. This is updated in real time.

How status tracking works - and its limits

Billdu tracks document status automatically, but there are some things it cannot detect:

  • Status changes to Sent when you send or share using the Send button in Billdu.

  • Status changes to Viewed when your client opens the email or the online link.

  • Status will not change to Viewed if you send the invoice using your own mail app outside Billdu - the tracking pixel is not included.

  • Status will not change to Viewed if your client only opens the PDF file attachment.

  • Status changes to Sent (not Viewed) when you export a document as a PDF or use mass export.

Limitation: Viewed status relies on email tracking pixels. Some email clients block these by default, which means the status may stay as Sent even when your client has opened the email.

Tip: To get a full payment overview across all clients, go to Reports in the mobile app or check the Statistics section on the website.
